The 87th Geneva International Motor Show, as every year, will bring us a bunch of highlights in the automotive industry. This year, it will open its door for the public from March 9, but the manufacturers can showcase their new stars already on March 7th on the media days.
Mercedes-Benz is preparing for a great summer time now. At the centre of the Mercedes-Benz presentation at this year’s Geneva Motor Show is the world premiere of the E-Class Cabriolet. The open four-seater is the fifth member of the successful model range. A new, highly unusual variant of the legendary off-road icon, the G-Class, will be shown for the first time. The new GLA celebrates its European premiere with an extended range of engines, a targeted optical accentuation in the interior and exterior design as well as updated equipment variants. With the Concept X-Class, Mercedes-Benz Vans gives an outlook on its new pick-up, the X-Class.
Already on the eve of the media days, Volkswagen Group will present the new VW models and those of its subsidiary brands on a press preview event. Besides the new generation of Passat CC, we can also expect an avant-garde gran turismo: the new Arteon. Furthermore, the new generation of Polo will be also presented in Geneva.
The Rüsselsheim-based manufacturer Opel will present the new Insignia, namely the Grand Sport and the Sports Tourer variants of its flagship for the very first time. In addition, the new Opel Crossland X will make its first public appearance at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show. Not less attractive than the new cars, two new OnStar services and the new Opel Exclusive program coming with the new Insignia will also debut in Geneva.
Porsche continues to achieve high levels of performance over the long term. The new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid sees the sportscar manufacturer launch a plug-in hybrid model as the flagship of a model line for the first time. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h – is a flying car still an untouchable dream?
The Korean car company Hyundai will take the advantage of the Geneva Motor Show to showcase its new generation of Hyundai i30 Wagon. The new member of the i30 family maintains the timeless design of its five-door sibling, adding elegance and versatility in its body style. The i30 Wagon’s sleek design does not compromise boot space, it has one of the biggest boots in the segment.
Audi’s new subsidiary brand Italdesign will join the Geneva Motor Show for the very first time and present directly two showcars there. The new “Italdesign Automobili Speciali” brand, the Moncalieri-based company presents its first ultra-limited series car with only five units to be built by the end of 2017. Intended for collectors and visionary enthusiasts, it combines racing car features and performance alongside type-approval for use on normal roads.
