2016, a year with so many amazing films – Those ones, who made every effort to produce excellent films for the worldwide public, definitely deserve to be honored. After the Golden Globe Awards at the beginning of January, the little gold men, as the world’s highest honors in filmmaking, are already eager to meet their owners.
The ceremony of the 89th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on February 26th, 2017, 5.30 p.m. PST (local time) / February 27th, 2017, 2.30 p.m. GMT. After a fantastic turn as the host of the Emmy Awards in 2016, the American comedian Jimmy Kimmel now also got the chance to host the Academy Awards ceremony for the very first time. He is well-known especially for his late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC and his all-stars comedy videos as “annual specials” like Jimmy Kimmel Live: After The Oscars and Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night. Therefore, global audience can expect on that evening, not only the thrilling results of the prize winners, but also a brilliant show with the humorous and quick-thinking host.
The competition is tough
The Oscars 2017 Nominations will be announced on January 24, 5.18 a.m. PST / 1.18 a.m. GMT. Several Oscar-winning and nominated Academy members including Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Emmanuel Lubezki, Jason Reitman and Ken Watanabe will join Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs to reveal the 89th Oscars Nominations.
Of course, various editorial departments always like to make predictions about the big favorites shortly before the nominations announcement. Looking back to the Oscars 2016, this year’s nominations would likely not be another #OscarsSoWhite case again, with three of the four acting categories almost certain to have non-white representation, says USA Today. In this year’s Oscar’s race, the romantic musical La La Land and acclaimed indie drama Moonlight would probably still keep their front-runner status, just as at the Golden Globes. And naturally, the directors would be as popular as their films: You can bet on seeing La La Land’s wunderkind Damien Chazelle and Moonlight main man Barry Jenkins, whose signature visions fuel each movie’s run to Oscar. As Leonardo DiCaprio finally took his first Oscar as Best Actor home in 2016, Casey Affleck from Manchester by the Sea, Denzel Washington from Fences and Ryan Gosling from La La Land could be the strongest contenders among others this year. The concurrence for the Best Actress will be also very hard, because no matter Emma Stone from La La Land, Natalie Portman from Jackie, or the new Golden Globe Award winner Meryl Streep from Florence Foster Jenkins could interpret their own roles in the films so precisely.
However, 2016 is also a year full of surprises – positive and negative. We’re still wondering if the big favorites will really laugh at the end. And we would like to share every highlight from the Oscars 2017 with the real film lovers! The nominations announcement on January 24th and the award ceremony on February 26th of Oscars 2017 will be live streamed on internet, and as usual, you can find both events on whats live?.
