The year 2017 is just around the corner. While other people are thinking about where and how to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the media industry worldwide is expecting for the first important award ceremony of the year – The Golden Globe Awards.
Regarded as a big part of Hollywood awards, the Golden Globe Award is an American accolade bestowed by about 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for distinguished achievements in film and television, and both domestic and foreign. The first awards honoring the best achievements exclusively in filmmaking granted by Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association – the precursor of today’s Hollywood Foreign Press Association – took place in 1944 with an informal ceremony at the 20th Century Fox studio. In 1956, the Golden Globes paved the way for the inclusion of television categories, alongside motion pictures. As mentioned above, the foreign market has its seat in Golden Globes and plays a more and more important role. The current Foreign Language category can look back to the Samuel Goldwyn International award, which distinguished non-US films from 1959 to 1964.
Today, the Golden Globes recognize excellent achievements in 25 categories. The 74th Golden Globes Award ceremony, hosted by the famous American comedian Jimmy Fallon, will be held on January 08, 2017, 5.00 p.m. PST (local time) / on January 09, 1.00 a.m. GMT at the Beverly Hilton in Beverley Hills, Los Angeles. The red carpet session will kick off already on the same day at 3.00 p.m. PST / 11 p.m. GMT. The nominations were already announced on December 12 (see below). You can simply find the live stream from the 74th Golden Globes Award ceremony on whats live? and witness the most exciting and the most touching moments from the United States, comfortably at home.
